Prairie Meadows Park Master Plan

Overall Park Plan Concept Sketch
Park Layout

This 20-acre site is a joint park/school site located just west of the Mustang Avenue and Grange Avenue intersection in the south central part of Sioux Falls. The newly constructed Journey Elementary School sits on the the north half of the site adjacent to Laquinta Street, with the southern half making up Prairie Meadows Park.

Concept Sketch of Shelter Area
Picnic Shelter/Playground Perspective

Proposed features for the park will include a 20’ x 40’ picnic shelter, a backstop for pickup games, playground equipment, and a climbing feature. There will also be pathway installed on the west and east side of the site; connecting Grange Avenue to Laquinta Street, making a nice walking loop for the neighborhood. The park also features ample flat, open space for area youth sports teams for practices and for general recreation.

Climbing Rock FeatureOne advantage of having a school next to the park is the joint usage of the facilities. This partnership provides park users with features that are not typically provided at other neighborhood parks. These features include two basketball courts, the asphalt play area, an additional playground, and off-street parking. It also offers the school district plenty of open space for outdoor gym opportunities and outdoor learning capabitlities.

The City of Sioux Falls Parks and Recreation Department encourages you to review the master plan and give us your comments and suggestions. The park development is scheduled to take place in spring/summer 2009 and will be complete by the fall. Thank you for your interest in the City of Sioux Falls Park system.
