Veterans' Memorial Park

Giving Back to Those Who Gave

Concept Map Drawing of Completed Veterans' Memorial Park

The dream of a veterans' memorial that recognizes the military history of our community and allows for a place to reflect on the sacrifices that all veterans made is at last being realized. First inspired by Msgr. James Andrasckho of Holy Spirit Church, the vision became reality as the City of Sioux Falls and veterans organizations embraced the idea. A committee began by researching various ideas, meeting with designers, veterans groups and the public. A professional design team refined those ideas and a master plan was developed for the Park.

The selected site, North of Terrace Park, was used by the US Army Air Corps during World War II. The park, which was dedicated on September 9, 2006, includes an entryway with flags, plazas, walls, and an amphitheater. The infrastructure of the park allows for memorials to be built over time in various spaces.
